2017-18 Biweekly PTA Newsletter - Issue date 10-20-2017


On Saturday, November 4th from 4-7PM we will once again host our annual Lantern Festival at the elementary school. This is a great event every year with food and entertainment that culminates in a traditional Lanterelaufen (lantern walk) around the school neighborhood. Mark your calendar and join us at this great event! We still need many volunteers to make this event successful. If you are an adult that would like to volunteer, please sign up at this link. If you have a Middle School student that would like to help out and earn volunteer service credits, they can contact Monica Solorio (mosolorio@aeacs.org) to find out what opportunities are available to them.


For our fall fundraiser this year, students will be selling local merchant discount cards to raise money for both schools. The fundraiser runs from October 19th to November 2nd and our goal is to raise $40,000 this year. Our Spanish Team is hosting its Dia de los Muertos celebration on Nov. 2nd and 3rd for ALL 6th graders. This is a huge undertaking (110 students/day) and our teachers need your help! For more info, or to volunteer or donate, please go to the middle school Wish List on SignUpGenius.com. Thank you for making this an authentic Dia de los Muertos celebration for our students! The 6th-8th grade Fall Dance is Friday, October 27th from 3-4:30PM @ the Middle School Basketball Courts. Students can purchase tickets for $2 next Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday during lunch and he/she will receive a permission slip in return.
Please bring the signed permission slip  (due the 27th by 4th period) in exchange for an admission bracelet and a pizza slice ticket. Please also note that Friday is free dress day whether your child is attending the dance or not.

*Important Change to Fall Fundraiser Coupon

Unfortunately, we were notified by the owner of Benny’s Mexican Food Restaurant (1244 30th St) that they will not be accepting their coupon on our local discount card that we are offering as part of our fall fundraiser.  I assure you that the fundraising company (North Star Fundraising) that created the card for us did their due diligence when creating the card and had a signed agreement with the restaurant management for the printed offer. North Star Fundraising is working with the owner of Benny’s Mexican Food to display a sign on their door to notify patrons that the coupons will not be accepted.

As you are selling cards, the best solution is to use a permanent marker to “X” out the coupons for Benny’s.
